West Virginia’s Second top destination with over 60 miles of shoreline and almost 2,800 acres of water. Includes land and water activities, with almost 6,000 acres of federal land for the management of fish and wildlife.

Long Point Overlook

Located on Rt. 129 just south of Summersville, you’ll be taken with a beautiful view of Long Point, the highest cliff on the lake, jutting out of the water to almost 100 feet.

Hydropower Plant

Located at the base of the Summersville Dam. Flows capable of generating power between 700 and 4,000 cubic feet per second.

The New River Gorge Region

From the north, Summersville is the gateway to the New River Gorge Region, which includes the world-known New River Gorge Bridge, located just 20 minutes south of Summersville.

Civil War Trails

An abundance of Civil War history which includes Carnifex Ferry. Civil War Trail Signage in 2009.

Historical Locations to See

Nicholas County Courthouse (Downtown Summersville), Old Main (North Main Street), the Historic Flavius Brown House (downtown Summersville), the Brock Hotel (Webster Road) the Hamilton House (one mile down Rt. 39 west), One Room Schoolhouse (Nicholas County Veteran’s Memorial Park), Scenic Lockwood Driving Tour, and the Historical Muddelty Trail which includes Jones Hole, Campbell Electric Company, and the Starbuck Mill (enter the trail at West Webster Road or at Rt. 39).

The Historic Flavius Brown House

Located in beautiful downtown Summersville, The Historic Flavius Brown House is on the National Register of Historic Places.
